Amelia and andrew WRIGHT

The Oxford Boat Adventure was created by Amelia Wright. Amelia and her husband Andrew have a family adventure of their own as they bring up with their 3 young children in rural Oxfordshire.

Amelia and Andrew are both committed and experienced coaches and course leaders with 30 years combined professional experience of helping young people to realise their potential.

Their passion is to introduce not only their own, but all children, to the joys of adventures in the great outdoors.

“We’re incredibly excited about combining our passion for boating with other practical, fun and rewarding activities on the farm and its lakes amid the beautiful South Oxfordshire countryside”.

Amelia believes that children should have the opportunity to experience a sense of freedom and adventure, and the time and space to enjoy their childhood in a safe environment. There are few places as well suited as Queenford Farm for The Oxford Boat Adventure to deliver this experience.

QUEENFORD FARM

Our hosts and home of the award winning Queenford Flock of pedigree, rare breed, Cotswold sheep are Ian and Angela Reid from Queenford Farm.

As long as the animals are happy they are delighted to allow children to roam free over their farm, lakes and woods, during the holidays.

THE LAKES

Queenford Farm sits on the banks of the River Thame, a tributary to the Thames near Dorchester, and has done so for many hundreds of years. For much of that time it was a watermill - Queensford Mill -mentioned in the Domesday book. Post war gravel extraction formed a network of lakes which have, since the end of quarrying in the 1960s, rewilded into a boating, fishing and wild swimming paradise. We have access to two of the lakes: the larger lake (Drayton Lake) measuring approximately 600x200 metres, and a slightly smaller lake (Island Lake) containing a wilderness island in the middle. Both lakes are approximately 5 metres deep and are accessed by slipways.
